CLAYTON, NC — The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in just days. The tournament management continues to move along with its planning. Mike Trojanowski, Vice President of Outfits, called a press conference to talk about the expected changes for our major championship.

"Welcome everyone. We have a few things to cover before I start my 8-day golf trip so I will just get started," said Troj. "The Casino Contest will not return after two years. Mike Lewis and Chris Lashley won the contest in 2004 and last year. The Captains Club obtained a room at the Clarion hotel for cards, however nothing is planned.

The Spackler News Network will most likely not return this year. The program may return next week dependent on weather delays. Our tee times and shotgun format really do not support SNN.

The group Closest to the Pin Contest has not been elminated, but will be scaled back considerably. "We have a new exciting format this year. I think it is something that everyone will be excited about. The format is designed to eliminate 70% of the time involved.

The optional hole-by-hole skins is not scheduled to return in 2006. Alhough the website fully tracks skins, this change eliminates administrative and financial tracking each evening after play.

The brewery tour will not be returning this year. Timing for the Carolina Brewery was not adequate.

The tournament honoree will be eliminated due to lack of interest.

There are a couple of rule changes this year for the tournament. Our seniors, which are 50 years of age or greater will tee one up with no penalty this year.

This year brings more white stakes and out of bounds than any tournament in Spackler history. Players should expect every hole to have white stakes. If you pull, push, slice or hook the ball and do not see white stakes, consider yourself very very lucky.

The Skills Challenge was initially scheduled to be scaled back. We will be returning with the Skills Challenge Contest on Thursday evening without the Trivia.
