Boland Wins Dooty Award

June 15, 2006

RALEIGH, NC — The doctor in the field of players, Matt Boland, took home the 2006 Dooty Award on Saturday for just awful putting. The lack of putting skills provided him 57th position on the leaderboard.

"It was pretty unemotional experience," said Matt Boland. "I am not very good at putting and your scoring system did a good job pointing that out."

Boland scored only two long-putts in Round 1 before carding only one on "moving day". Boland did not score a bonus point in Round 3.

Jay Glover, the Carl Spackler, carded 12 bonus points, which doubled Boland's performance. Glover finished tied for 2nd to last in long-putt bonus points.

"Outfit-free and treating the injuried were my primary goals for my rookie year," said Dr. Matt Boland. "Next year is an entire different story. I expect to make a stronger impact on the course."

"Statisically speaking... Boland's scoring was completely dependent on yardage to par," said Captains Club member Tom McCauley. "The longer the hole, the higher over par Matt scored. Hopefully brother Pat can save the day."

Matt Boland averaged 4.5 strokes on par 3 holes. He averaged 6.0 strokes on par 4 holes. His scores continued to balloon including 7.25 strokes on par 5 holes. Boland's fatigue factored into his lack of success. Boland swung the club quite a bit on the back nine.

The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship concluded last Saturday with Shawn Long winning the Golden Jacket, Championship Trophy and $349 purse.
