Boland Commits

September 21, 2006

DULUTH, GA — Pat Boland, winner of the 2005 Skills Challenge, verbally committed to the Carl Spackler Open Championship last week. He plans to sign for his 4th straight major championship and represent the state of Georgia.

"As of right now, I am 100% in this year's field," said Boland. "My game is terrible, but definitely committed to the Open regardless of location."

Boland's signing was considered a swing signing expecting to add or remove 4-6 players from the tournament. Pat's announcement is expected to return Matt Boland and Bob Morris for sure and raise the overall attendance expectation.

Larry Miller remains questionable while a couple of Matt Boland referrals are probable. "My referral is Rookie MVP for sure," said Matt Boland. "A true character."

"We are very excited with the anticipated return of the Boland brothers," said Mike Davis. "A personal check is the critical type of commitment, but accept the verbal commitment with honor."

Pat Boland beat out 67 golfers to win the 2005 Skills Challenge Contest. Matt Boland, the only doctor in the field, returns after placing 59th in his first major. Bob Morris is expected to return in hopes of erasing the 22-over 94 strokes in the final round at the Neuse Golf Club.

Pat Boland completed his 4th Golfapalooza championship last weekend in Terra Alta, WV. Greg Garrett, Jason Watson, Rick Dosky, Brian Flanagan, Gus Sokos and Greg Long were also in the field of players. Rick Dosky won the tournament with 161 points.

The 2007 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to open first round play on June 7. The Captains Club expects 60-74 golfers to sign for the 7th annual tournament. A venue announcement is scheduled for October 1.
