BROOKLYN, MI — The Captains Club has been actively promoting its 7th Major Championship scheduled for June 2007. On Sunday, the club announced go kart races as the first of many optional activities to be explored tournament week.

"Brooklyn is a national race town," said Jeremy Myers. "Victory Lane Speedway presents us with a wonderful very local opportunity. We are looking forward to crowning a champion in both golf and go karts."

The Captains Club plans to acquire group interest in March and rent the entire speedway by the hour. The facility includes a 1/4 mile track and 16 rental karts. The races will be managed by its members using a bracket.

The optional activity will be held in the morning on Thursday or Saturday to nearly eliminate drinking and driving. "The itinerary is going to be tight all week," says Jeremy Myers. "This is our opportunity to insert activites that provide much wanted fun time and camaraderie while decreasing golfer fees with afternoon tee times."

Victory Lane Speedway is very local and requiring a 5-minute walk and 15-second drive from the choice hotel.

"The exact price of the optional go kart experience is still unofficial," said Myers. "We are looking at the possibility of $20.00 per golfer. We plan to confirm these numbers in the next few months."

The initial consideration of 16 karts for 90 minutes would result in 1,440 minutes of race time. A base assumption of 40 golfers would provide 36 minutes of kart time per golfer.

"It really boils down to the group interest," says Myers. "We might get 20 guys and might get 50 guys. Our group interest mostly effects overall rental time and probably not individual kart time."

The 2007 Carl Spackler Open registration will begin on November 15. Non-refundable deposits of $120 must be postmarked by December 28 to register. Golfers may send their deposits into Rick Dosky today.
