POWELL, OH — The Captains Club ensured a bright future for the Carl Spackler Open today after the rapid signings included Bill Bateson's national letter of intent was received. As a rookie, this guy made an impact that was ignored. He took a year off and received press after opening in last place of a 68-player tournament.

"My game needed approvement and demanded attention," says Bateson. "Most people lose their golf games after becoming a parent. I have resurrected my game afterwards. The post-parent era has eliminated all whiffs and dropped my handicap substantially."

Mike Zabonik, a close friend of Bill Bateson, has decided that positive focus is essential to a major championship. "Bill used to get extremely excited and very nervous before alcohol could stablize him. It is quite amusing, but things have changed and scores are lower."

"When you play golf with players at their best, it's all about who is mentally tough. It is war out there. I have seen my worst at Mountain Valley and believe I have the mental toughness to win my first championship just 2 years afterwards. There is just something about wearing the Golden Jacket that catches my eye."

Bill Bateson signs as the first player from Ohio. The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship registration period ends December 28. The tournament expects to sign 60-74 players.
