Butter & Pokey to Rebound

February 26, 2007

PITTSBURGH, PA — Matt Davis and Brian Flanagan, members of the Captains Club, co-sign for the 7th annual tournament and expect to fully rebound from disappointments over the past couple of years.

Matt and Brian have seen individual successes at the Carl Spackler Open. Brian, a.k.a. Butter, is part of the winning 2003 4-man Scramble Team and beat Scott Miller in a playoff for the long-putt award.

Butter did plunge downward into 21st position for best golfer in Spackler history with a 634.40 ranking after disappointing 54th position at Mountain Valley. Matt Davis, a.k.a. Pokey, tore his hand into 16 different pieces two years ago. He has rebounded and continues to shine as the 5th best golfer with a 768.83. Davis worst finish was 27th at Tanglewood Park.

Butter disappointed everyone by skipping the tournament last June, while Pokey placed 17th at the 2006 Carl Spackler Open. "My hand is getting much better and starting to drop my handicap," said Pokey from his home in Pittsburgh, PA. "My goal in Michigan is to obviously beat Jason Watson straight up. Then win the Golden Jacket as another high priority."

Brian Flanagan has another outlook. "Find Boland and work with him," Butter said with a smile. "If it worked for Dosky... it can work for anyone. That is my plan."

Flanagan was asked about his late-registration and skipping last year. He replied, "It is great to be back. Fortunately, I have worked out a major scheduling conflict to attend this year. I have very very excited about the wide fairways. The Grande might as well play like a par 3 course. This tournament boils down to myself and couple of other guys using irons from the fairway."

Matt Davis has dropped his stroke handicap to 11.8 strokes. Brian Flanagan balloons back to a 21.4 with poor play in 2005 and 2006.

The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 100 days. Pokey and Butter sign as the 40th and 41st players in the field.
