Garrett Might Just Quit

June 28, 2003

HILLIARD, OH — I didn't play well would be the best way to describe Greg Garrett's game at the 2003 Carl Spackler Open Championship.  If there were a cut, he would have missed it after Round 1 for the first time in his career.  Since the dreaded tournament where he shot 114 in the 2nd round, Greg decided to take a few weeks off to figure out what was happening.

It didn't help.  "I might be off indefinitely", he said.  "There's no point to this hacking." Garrett, who placed 5th at the 2002 Spacker Open with a bad case of poison ivy might be walking through the woods as a pre-tournament ritual from now on.

Garrett has exactly 88 days to get things together before Golfapalooza 2003 where he might be getting 2 for double bogey if things don't improve.  Kyle Marti was in no mood to talk after hacking up Thunder Hill beyond explanation.  Having spent the last month few months working on my swing, Marti said his game was getting closer.  His only beef was with reporters who question his desire or work ethic without seeing the amount of time he spends on the practice range.

"I'm out there pursuing excellence," Marti told reporters.  "And I have a hard time explaining that to those who aren't golfers."  Marti finished the 2003 Spackler Open with an 87 on the back nine finishing with 9, 12, 15, 4, 15, 15 on his card.
