Pokey Rallies on 36th Hole

July 28, 2003

PITTSBURGH, PA — Through 24 cans of beer on Saturday, a burned mustache, 54 holes and a few hours of sleep, Winston (i.e. Cowan) fell short on Sunday to Matt Davis, Vice President of Kitchen Pass Allocation.  Pokey rallied on the home hole from out of the church hill bunker to salvage a bogey at Quicksilver.

?Disaster?, said Pokey after being asked about his golf game.  ?I never want to play this game again.?  Pokey shot 105 on Saturday, one behind a Winston 104 to be one down going into Sunday.  ?When Slick told me that things were all even after 53 holes, I really needed to do something, however the church hill bunker was not what I had in mind.?  Pokey was hitting 111 as Winston was hitting 112 in this hackfest.  Winston firmly struck the ball down the middle of the fairway with possibly his best shot of the day leaving a 9-iron into the green and a possible victory over Matt Davis.

Jeff Cowan, a man that was named Cowan/J.C. burned a portion of his mustache off while a rare drunk at a Venago Golf Course.  This false move during the Saturday morning scramble ensured a promptly renamed Jeff Cowan to ?Winston? for the Winston Light that he attempted to smoke on #4.

Gumby, who hit eagle on #17 was asked to comment about the hacking marathon, ?These guys are not C players.  They are definitely D players.  Watching Winston throw away potentially the best opportunity to beat my brother over a 36 hole period was heart-breaking for everyone associated.?  Winston shanked his 2nd shot straight left, then left the ball short twice before almost holing out for bogey and a possible tie.

The foursome placed first at the Venago scramble winning $150 for an 11-under par.  The group also carded two skins worth $68 per skin resulting a payout of $270 for their Saturday morning.
