Hole 3: First Test

September 8, 2007

ALPINE LAKE, WV — Greg Long, the 8-year member of Golfapalooza, continued to release smidges of his new book, “Memories: How I lived Golfapalooza”, which is due out to book stores in a couple of weeks. Long, a.k.a. Slick, was asked to walk through Chapter 5, which is titled, “The Front Nine” as it provides his insights of how to play the Ron Forse par 72 golf course.

Slick shot right into the 3rd hole. “This is your first test,” said Long. “You need to get the ball to the green to guarantee bogey, but if you miss the green you must be below the hole with your second to ensure bogey.

This is where you flex your muscles on the road to your MELC Championship Trophy. Everyone else is in for bogey or double bogey. Can you rise above that?

The third hole has a great Golfapalooza memory. There is a very tall aged tree to the left of the green. Brent Kaniecki had thrown his club again, but this time it was laying across two branches about 35 to 40 feet above the ground.

For some reason, Brent Kaniecki grabbed my lob wedge and rocketed it straight up in helicopter fashion in an attempt to release his club from one of the two branches. I was not so lucky as there were now two golf clubs stuck in the tree. After 15 minutes of staring into eye piercing sun and 8 loozers throwing club after club, we eventually knocked the clubs down."
