Pokey & Dosky File

PERU, IN — Matt Davis and Rick Dosky, members of the Captains Club, co-filed for the 8th annual tournament. Matt Davis signs for his 8th tournament while Dosky signs for his 7th straight tournament.

Rick Dosky signed very late this year after successful surgery on his first of two badly mangled hips. "My left hip should be ready to go by mid-April," said Dosky in an exclusive interview.

Dosky continued, "I'm on the road to recovery. I received doctor clearance to swing the irons in late-February. He actually said, 'you should be back on the golf course and hit the long ball soon.'

My response was clear, 'I couldn't hit it long before my surgery, so that will be great!'"

Dosky plans to take 54 zeros in this year's tournament before skipping it entirely. "Dr. Boland and Dr. 90210 are in the tournament field and should be able to take care of my fragile mangled body. If it means I need to rent a motorized scooter and use croquet mallets, so be it. But, I will be there!"

The Chief Financial Officer of the Carl Spackler Open expects his mangled right hip to be usable for 1 or 2 more years. He said, "I've got a good window of time to learn how to play golf with one artificial hip before I'll have to start all over again with two replaced hips."

Rick Dosky won the 2005 Carl Spackler Open Championship at Mountain Valley after making posture adjustments on the range. He finished in a tie for 6th position in 2006. He finished in a tie for 11th in 2007.

"Rick is quite a story," says Mike Trojanowski. "He has surged over the past 3 years to near legendary status."

Dosky would have ran away with the 2007 Carl Spackler Open if handicapped using the USGA Handicap System. He would have beat Brian "Butter" Flanagan by 11 strokes. Rick would also have won the 2006 Carl Spackler Open by 10 strokes over Jim Campbell.

"He has played like a champion," says Trojanowski. "He appears unstoppable with no working hips. One working hip should unbalance his swing and give everyone else a chance to win. I hope the new hip does not result in the Carl Spackler Outfit."

Matt Davis, a.k.a. Pokey, has fully recovered from his 2005 surgery. He has dropped his stroke handicap to 9.6 strokes. He also finished in 3rd position in the 2007 Virtual Tournament. The strong finish was 1.3 points from first place.

Pokey is looking for his first award or trophy in Championship History. He has been shutout for 7 years.

The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 82 days. Pokey and Dosky sign as the 49th and 50th players in the field.
