GLEN ALLEN, VA — In terms of days, it's basically new year's day. That has not prevented our boys from pacing the fairways.

But the turn of the calendar from a 5 to a 6 means we have a brand new shiny season to embrace.

There's been some negativity in the press about the lower count for the 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship, however the guys in Richmond did not appear to care during their seasonal opener at the Crossings.

"I am starting off with positive focused swings," says Scott Zavinski. "This is my year to improve."

Zavinski has already posted 4 scorecards averaging 42.2 points per round.

Joe Butkus is also off to a quick start this year posting two scorecards, but with poor results.

"I am pretty much a high-ball hitter and it gets pretty windy here," says Butkus. "Some of the par-5s are impossible when played into this frigid bone chilling cold. Everyone can expect a rise in play with normal summer trade winds. That will make a difference."

In other news, the business office announced the release of 43 golfers from the Spackler community. The releases include the majority of the golfers registered within Poststats.com, however not actively involved with the annual golf trip. The community drops from 140 members to 97 members.
