Undecuple Bogey

April 14, 2008

ASHVILLE, OH — Jeremy Daw opened his 2008 golf season surprisingly this week at Upper Lansdowne Golf Club in Ashville, OH. The disappointing round of just 24 points included an incredibly rare undecuple bogey at the 6th hole.

"Not a good start for sure," said Daw after his round. "A 91-over 163 is not the 'Jeremy Daw image' that I am trying to get out."

Daw did manage to salvage part of his round with 1 bogey and 1 double bogey worth 10 points. He also scored 3 triple bogeys worth 9 points.

"Conditions and weather can always be a factor in April," says member Rick Dosky of the round. "Some guys can ignore conditions and some guys fold like a lawn chairs. I expect more from Daw, but my expectations are not going to put the ball in the hole quicker."

Rookie Michael Gibson was asked for his impressions of the undecuple bogey at the 6th hole. "What is that? I have never heard of such a score." Playing partner Brad Carder replied quickly in hopes of moving on. "The undecuple bogey comes after the decuple bogey, which follows the nonuple bogey, which follows the octuple bogey."

Gibson replied, "Really. That is pretty cool. What is a octuple bogey?"

Carder said, "A octuple bogey is 8-over par."

Matt Davis asked, "How hammered was this guy on Saturday?"

Jeremy opened his round with a pair of sextuple bogeys. He carded three quintuple bogeys before arriving to the 6th hole. The front nine carnage included a 51-over 87 strokes.

"I took a sextuple bogey of my own at the 9th hole," said Dosky. "Amazingly, my eleven strokes was enough to hit second off the tee at the 10th hole."

Jeremy caught fire on the back nine dropping 11 strokes. The pair of octuple bogeys at the 17th and 18th holes ruined a considerably better back nine. The 5-putt at the 12 hole was very 'Rick Dosky-like', which was just another round killer.

"There is no way he can swing more," said Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club looking for a positive spin to the round. "Cold, rainy, and very early spring round. He really has seen the worst round possible and now can look at better things. I have seen lots of these guys over the years. They drop about 10 strokes per round and before you know it, they are shooting the low 100's."

Daw has seven weekends and 50 days before the official practice round.

"This guy needs to put some physical space between Dosky and Carder," said Jason Watson, Vice President of Awards. "That last thing this guy needs is to be watching Carder switch-hitting his irons and Dosky's posture over the ball."

The round brings back memories of Jon Munksgard at Thunder Hill Golf Club in June 2003. Munksgard shot a record high 62-over 98 on the back nine during final round tournament play. Munksgard also carded one undecuple bogey plus two nonuple bogeys.

Rick Dosky won the Saturday event by one stroke over Brad Carder with 115 strokes. Daw took third place by 47 strokes.

Jeremy enters the Virtual Tournament as a rookie. Rookie Rich Armstrong and Jason Watson from Texas lead the season-long event by a poor 58.3 points per round. They grab the top spot after Henkel posted a 41-point effort.
