Tournament Fee: $365

October 30, 2008

LYNCHBURG, VA — Poplar Grove Golf Club will host the 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship. Rick Dosky announced the required tournament fee on behalf of the Captains Club Wednesday night from his home in Columbus, OH.

"I am very excited with our budget and values achieved," said Rick Dosky. "I am so glad the planning for this year is done a couple of weeks early."

The 9th major championship will be held in Amherst, VA and administrated inside Lynchburg, VA.

"The cost for the 54-hole tournament is once again extremely affordable," said Chief Financial Officer, Rick Dosky. "With group size, anything is possible. Our required fee of $365.00 is very consistent with our last 8 years while adding services and entertainment year after year. I am very pleased with our budget and its flexibility."

The record-high tournament fee is expected initially to be considered high based on previous tournaments. "We had a great opportunity this year and have decided 'all values' must be realized," said Rick Dosky from his home in Columbus, OH. "We have added the same unprecedented services, lodging, and entertainment to this year's package. Our office is simply stunned at the values throughout our package."

Inflation surged over the past 2 years and suggests a tournament fee closer to $400-$425. "I think our ability to keep the tournament fee well below affordable is something to be excited about," Dosky added. "This exceeds the tremendous value received in Peru and easily the best value in the history of our tournament."

The package includes range balls each day before play. It also includes, but not limited to $3,000+ in prizes and giveaways, 6 meals, outdoor pool, refrigerator, a thousand snacks, banquet room, GPS on brand new electric golf carts, ticket to baseball game, queen size beds, bag storage, pool tables, live music, record-low clubhouse beer prices, 3 rounds at Poplar Grove Golf Club, and 4 nights at the Quality Inn.

Champion Harold Anderson asked, "What about the shuttle bus?" Dosky replied, "We are still finalizing our shuttle package, but daily service to/from the golf course for 57 golfers will be a participant option. Anderson replied, "What about Saturday service? Does daily service include Saturday?" Dosky replied, "Yes. The coach bus will be included for all 3 tournament rounds, which includes Saturday and to/from the baseball stadium. The ooach bus can handle 57 golf bags inside the luggage area. Anderson asked, "Included?" Dosky said, "Not in the tournament fee. Participants will be given an option in March to grab a seat."

The tournament entry fee will be $120 per player, which is non-refundable, non-transferable, and reserves you a spot in the talented field of players. The winner's prize has not yet been determined, however Golden Jacket, Horses Ass Trophy, Kitchen Pass Award and Championship Trophy will return.

"We are seizing a tremendous opportunity once again to eliminate 'too much money' as a reason to skip this year's tournament," said Dosky. "I am more than satisfied with this year's fee and the overall budget."

The tournament size is set at 400 participants with more than enough rooms at the Quality Inn and hotel across the street. The tournament is expected between 68-90 golfers. The tournament fee plus additional options will provide a tournament budget around $35,000.

"We are hearing rumors of another Pelosi stimulus package," says Captains Club member Jason Watson. "This could be unprecedented; two straight tournaments for free."

Tournament registration officially begins on November 15 with $120 non-refundable non-transferable deposits. Registration is available today and remains open until January 28. All checks received after the postmarked deadline of January 28 will be placed on a waiting list until April 18. A decision will be made on late-entries on April 18 to achieve a tournament field divisible by 4.
