Owens Pours in 71 Points

June 22, 2009

ASHVILLE, OH — Bobby Owens, Jr. birdied three of his last six holes to card a 3-over 75 Sunday to grab 6th position in the 2009 Virtual Tournament. The 71-point round included an even par 35 strokes on the back nine.

Owens who placed 9th in his first Major Championship carded 6 bogeys, 3 birdies, and 9 pars during his round at Upper Landsdowne Golf Club.

“It was good to finish well,” Owens said. “On the back nine all my iron shots were going right at the pin, and it was a great feeling.”

Birdie putts at 13, 15 and 18 dropped along with a bogey save at 12 and par save at 16. Owens has 6th position with 65.2 points per round.

The front nine wasn’t nearly as impressive after opening with 3 text book pars and a 3-putt par at the 4th hole.

"Where do these guys get the fire to play golf," says Rick Dosky. "I have no desire to play golf for at least a month. The stress of the Major Championship not to mention the marathon on June 12 was plenty of golf for me. I might not play for months."

Michael Gibson also played on Sunday. He shot a 12-over 84, which was his 2nd lowest number of his career. Gibson moved into 17th position with 61.1 points per round.

“I’ve heard that this course was a monster,” Gibson said. “I pretty much brought Upper Landsdowne to its knees for about 4 hours on Sunday. It was like taking milk money from a middle-school kid.”

Scott Mealey continues to lead the 2009 Virtual Tournament with 71.4 points per round. Mealey carded 79 points over the weekend to hold the top position over the 2009 Golden Jacket winner Chad Long.
