Eagle Man Grabs Lead

October 19, 2009

GALENA, OH — The 2009 Virtual Tournament has a new leader by the name of Jack Schone. The leader by a mere 0.1 points per round carded two incredible eagles at Byron Hills Golf Course in Port Byron, IL. The Ohioan posted a 4-under 68 with 95 points.

Schone, a.k.a. Hawkeye, opened the season with 52 points. He followed that up with 57 points and well back of the pack. He turned the corner in mid-April as he started to slowly climb the Leaderboard. "My game outside Ohio has been awful until recently," says Schone. "It all came together in Illinois."

Schone began to stalking the leaders in August. He captured the lead on September 26 over neighbor Chad Long. The 11th oldest round of 52 points was replaced by the latest 95-point round.

"I am feeling good about this season," said Hawkeye after hearing his new position on the Leaderboard. "I have played 11 rounds this year and learned a little each round. It is a shame everything comes to an end with 34 degree temperatures."

Schone averages 2.1 birdies per round, 7.6 pars per round, 6.1 bogeys per round, and 0.2 eagles per round.

Jack birdied the opening hole at Bryon Hills. He also eagled the 4th and 8th holes. "It was magic," says Schone. "It is not everyday that anyone can shoot 5-under 31 for 9 holes. It has been a great experience."

Schone moved to 6-under after 10 holes, but decided obtaining the course record would be selfish. He bogeyed the 11th and 12th holes on purpose before finishing the round with 6 pars.

"He should consider changing his nickname from Hawkeye to Eagle," says member Ron Saxe.

The pessimistic Jeff Miller commented on latest leader. "Nobody bothered to mention the disaster two weeks prior at New Albany Country Club," said Miller. "The Spackler News Network needs to keep the news real."

Hawkeye shot an embarrassing 14-over 86 on September 12. He scored a dismal 47 points. The round included 7 pars and 3 double-bogeys.

Jack Schone grabs the top spot from Chad Long, who dawned on the Golden Jacket back in June 2009. Schone has 71.2 points per round. Chad Long has 71.1 points per round. Jason Ridgeway has 3rd position with 70.6 points per round. Mark Palmer has 4th position with 70.4 points per round.
