Chad to Defend Title

January 14, 2010

GALENA, OH — The Vice President of Online Scoring, Chris Philipsen announced today that legend Chad Long has signed to play golf at the 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship. Long registers as the 2009 Champion.

Long signs to participate in his 7th straight major championship. The 2009 Golden Jacket winner also was awarded the 2004 Horses Ass Award and 2005 Webb Award for being the best player in Spackler history.

"It is my pleasure to defend the title in Texas," said Long from his home in Galena, OH. "The wind off the gulf has no effect on my worm burner, which gives me an edge on the field."

As far as the Horses Ass Award, Glenn Hoffert tells the story well. "We were on Hole 4," said Hoffert from memory. "Chad was about 120 yards out and looking for his 9-iron. He looked in his bag, while complaining repeatedly. After about 5 minutes, he wanted to drive backwards through the course looking for the club." Chad was reportedly seen and heard asking every player in the field as he continued to get more frustrated with each foursome he passed.

"Are you sure it is not in your bag," said playing partner Andy Cohen. "I asked him because he was drunk and usually acts stupid." After tracking backwards through the entire front nine, Chad returned to his ball without the club. "I will just hit the wedge," said Chad as he went to his bag for the club.

"That was the moment I will never forget," said Hoffert. "It was legendary. He went into the golf bag and found his 9-iron. His grin was priceless."

The second nomination was done by legend Steve Hoden. "We were on the tee box of Hole 6 during the final round," said Hoden. "We were waiting for the group in the fairway for a bit as Chad continued to drink. After the guys moved out of the way, most of us hit our tee shots. We drove away towards our second shots."

The group approached their second shots, Chad exclaimed, "Where is my ball?" The guys said they did not know. Chad then dumb-foundedly said, "Did I ever tee up?" The rest of the guys thought for a second and began laughing uncontrollably. "It was pretty hilarous," said Hoden. "I have never even heard of something so hilarous."

Chad Long purchased a $74 + tax one-way ticket to Houston, TX. In addition to his airline ticket, he has also received his $300 credit for winning the Virginia event.

In other news, Nick Casale of New Jersey is rumored to be attending the 10th event in Texas. Casale has been added to the event rumor mill as probable, which continues to suggest the participant outlook at a number between 40 and 60 golfers.
