HAZLETON, PA — The Carl Spackler Open Championship registration is available. The organizers reiterated today the role of texting and incorporation into its large event. The enhancement is expected to improve real-time communication to a large number of participants regardless of location.

"The benefits of this technology for Carl Spackler Open is endless," says Brian Long, Vice President of Participant Documents. "The event has transitioned into something that requires communication beyond the daily pairing sheet. The ability to communicate to participants quickly, individually, and real-time has tremendous value."

The texting feature is expected to notify golf trip participants with  weather delays, unexpected rule changes, itinerary changes, and other real-time notifications.

"Participants are required to visit their individual profiles and provide a cell phone vendor," said Long. "The vendor information along with cell phone number will allow organizers to send important texts to the entire group. Golfers without a cell phone or without texting capabilities are expected to notify Rick Dosky upon registration. Paid golfers will not become a participant of the 2011 Carl Spackler Open without providing cell phone carrier."

The Captains Club reminded everyone the importance of the website as a portal for group information. As the event continues to grow, everyone is asked to update their accounts and contact information.

"The ability to notify 90 people in 20 different locations almost immediately has enormous benefit," says Captains Club member Jason Watson. "Stopping all golfers throughout the golf course collectively and immediately for a pending thunderstorm is a great tool to have on your belt. Communicating a bus departure has been delayed is another large step forward to providing more organized events."

The ‘cell phone carrier’ field is a drop down selection and can be found right next to cell phone number inside your profile. Members can update their online profile by (1) signing into the website, (2) clicking "My Profile" at the top of any page, and (3) clicking on the pencil next to your mailing address or phone number.

The Carl Spackler Open address book now indicates who has provided a cell phone carrier. Members who have provided a cell phone carrier have '(txt)' after their cell phone number.
