Shuttle Service Expands

December 11, 2011

BINGHAMTON, NY — The Carl Spackler Open and Captains Club made plans to return this year with more than just a classic field of players. The event is expected to return with safe shuttle transportation to/from the golf course on both Thursday and Friday plus shuttle service between airport and hotel.

The bus service removes the possibility of drinking and driving after golf, decreases fuel costs, and allows for additional relaxation. There will not be bus service on Wednesday as golf bags must be transported to the golf course for the practice round. There also will not be bus service on Saturday when golf bags must be transported back to the hotel.

"We are very pleased with the opportunities in Binghamton," says Vice President of Tournament Transportation, Don Creighton. "The primary goal is to fill both buses and utilize the airport shuttle."

The shuttle service is included in the price of the event and based on 80 golfers in attendance.

"We have not rented one bus for two trips to golf course, but rented two buses each day," says Don Creighton. "The buses could depart at different times on Thursday to accommodate dual tee starts, but both buses will depart at the same time on Friday for the shotgun start. Both buses will return to the hotel together each night."

Creighton added, "The airport shuttle is managed by the hotel and custom based on individual flight times."

There are no other included transportation services. The nightly entertainment plus a number of restaurants are a short walk from the hotel.

The cargo compartments for each bus measure 6-foot 6-inches long, 22 inches deep and 18 inches high with 3 compartments per bus.

Daily pairing sheets are expected to be distributed on the Thursday and Friday buses.

"The cost for a seat on the bus is included in the $435 golf trip fee," added Creighton. "There are 96 seats on the two buses."

The 2012 Carl Spackler Open begins on June 6 with the annual practice round. There are 43 golfers registered for the 12th annual birthday party. There is just 6 participants. Event registration continues through January 31.
