Mac Opens in 4th Place
June 21, 2005
COLUMBUS, OH — John McAninch was a round at Mountain Valley from a stellar start. A start that would certainly have positioned him for a hostle take over of 1st place. Except Mountain Valley had other plans.
After two rounds of 88 strokes good for 46 and 50 points, McAninch was pushed to 93 strokes at Mountain Valley. To make matters worse, his pars and birdies dipped and just allowed an average 35 points. Now McAninch will deal with 4th place, but in good position for a hostile take over if he can find the magic back in Columbus.
"He really was on fire this spring," says Chris Phillipsen. "Mountain Valley is not an easy course and it certainly showed."
McAninch currently holds 4th position with Creighton on top. Steve Hoden has 2nd place while Greg Garrett holds 3rd position. Billy Smalls rounds out the Top 5.
Garrett not only is playing well with a new constructed golf swing, but continued to progress forward during the Carl Spackler Open where he took a commanding lead after Round 2 with a stellar effort on Thursday and Friday. He showed his version of "Jason Gore meltdown" when he fell dramatically in the final round to 9th position.
In other news, a group of guys from Allentown, PA have registered and plan to make an impact on the leaderboard very soon. David Drozd, Frank Frey, and Brad Scheetz have been very active since early June.
The On Tour Championship concludes on December 15, 2005.
