Pokey Focused on Open

March 8, 2002

WILLIAMSBURG, VA — We're in Virginia, this April for the Carl Spackler Open.  The organizers are happy because the field is as strong as it can be.  The top five players of last year have decided to return, including No. 2 Matt Davis of 2001.  Pokey, Vice President of Kitchen Pass Allocation is poised to upgrade from the Blueberry Hill Two Man runner up to his 1st major championship.

"I am very excited about my 2nd major", said Davis.  "The Blueberry Two Man is great, but this is the big one."  Most of the tour has concerns about Pokeys game going into this Open Championship.  He started the On Tour Championship last year red hot to finish with scores in the three-digit category.

Davis volunteered some information on his suspect game.  "I will admit that I was struggling last fall with my game, however I am improving and plan to have some alcohol in the bag to relax my swing."  Pokey has also been working on his putting and chipping in his living room this winter.  The two-point long putt is an edge that Davis thinks will win the tournament.  "Putting is critical in an event like this.  You really need to be able to read the greens and be consistent."

The Colonial Golf Club will host the 2002 Carl Spackler Open in Williamsburg, VA.  There are several reports of players like Matt Davis to play a practice round on Wednesday morning to gain some familarity with the golf course.  The tournament is sold out, however tickets are available for the practice round.

Granted, most of the field has been finalized. But there are still two spots remaining, and many an anxious player primed to fill them.
