WHEELING, WV — Long ago (1997), in a tavern far, far away (Wheeling), three ordinary, average beer drinkers decided they wanted to start having a golf outing. So it was at Wakims Bar and Grill that these beer drinkers, hereafter known as Butter, Grundo, and Stan, developed the foundation of the larger-than-life entity known as Golfapalooza.

Extensive research by Grundo and Stan revealed that state parks in WV that had golf courses would be the best place to have this event due to the availability and cost of lodging. After having called two parks and finding no available space, Grundo called Twin Falls State Park in southern WV and discovered an available cabin; it was reserved for the first weekend in October. And so it began.
