Trash Talker

December 15, 2003

HILLIARD, OH — Don McFarland of Hilliard, OH has signed a national letter-of-intent to play golf at the 2004 Carl Spackler Open, Matt Davis of the Captains Club announced today. The 3rd year member will join the field in June for the annual 54-hole tournament.  McFarland is scheduled for a promotion to the Captains Club after the 2004 event.

Spanky was nominated for the best ?trash talker? in the field. ?Spanky is not your average player. He doesn?t have a scar on his left arm for nothing?, said Brian Flanagan. ?He really can talk a good game.? Spanky was hit by a ball in 2001 while playing golf on Tuesday evening golf league. There is no proof that this incident was caused by his trash talking.

"Spanky is a great golfer and a individual who will contribute to the success of the Spackler Open," said Davis. "I am excited to be around such a player; he has a great deal of talent and excitement for the game of golf. I suspect he will have a successful career at Open and hopefully beat me this year."

When Spanky was reached for comment, he didn?t spare the trash. "I'm just as excited about becoming a Captains Club member after this year. I also think I'm still getting better and should be considered the front runner to win this thing if I get a well deserved double-bogey. I can't wait to win my first major, I really can?t wait," he said. "On the easier Tanglewood Park golf course, I think I have the ability to dominate."

McFarland was promoted this summer to the Director of Pizza/Sergeant of Arms for his love for quality pizza and physical violence.  McFarland?s key role this year will be to purchase the best Friday night pizza for the lowest price for approximately 40 players.  ?This is not an easy job?, said Don Creighton.  ?Organizing the purchase and different topping requests demonstrates a commitment to pizza and the group.?

The Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin play in 178 days.  Don McFarland is the 2nd member to sign and 4th overall player to sign.
