It'll Be a "Breese"

April 9, 2004

HERNDON, VA — Another Carl Spackler Open Championship rookie has gotten himself into the doghouse with the rest of the field for his comments about the Open this year, SNN has learned.  The AP reported early today that Andrew Breese stated, ?It?ll be a breeze at the CSOC this year,? a comment which has ruffled many feathers among the rest of the players.

Breezer?s representative, whom he hastily hired today, issued a second short statement to the press later in the day, backpedaling from his original statement.  SNN obtained a copy of his press release, which reads: ?I?m sorry that my comments were taken out of context today.  I certainly did not intend to imply that I would easily win the tournament; rather, my intention was to convey that I expect to have a great time at my first major tournament this year in Winston-Salem.?

?I?m not sure what to think, after all, he is a rookie.  Rookies sometimes make statements that they later regret, and I hope that?s all it was in this case,? said Open Member Scott Miller.  ?At first, I wasn?t very happy, but he did try to clarify what he said.  I?m OK with it, as long as it doesn?t happen again,? added Captain?s Club member Don Creighton.

Little is known about Breese and his skills, although rumors floating around the Herndon, VA area indicate that the 4-year amateur has decent distance off the tee, a better than average putting stroke, but that his weakness lies with his wedge game 100 yards and in.  The golfing world will find out how accurate this report really is in approximately 60 days at Tanglewood Park.
