WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Tom McCauley, wearer of the 2002 Carl Spackler Outfit, slammed the door shut immediately during the 2004 Closest to the Pin Contest.  After Jon Munksgard, who claimed the 2003 Spackler Outfit, started the contest with a few erant shots, Tommy stepped up as the two players to mark the shots near the pin.  The shot was a downhill 150 yard shot.

"It was really a great swing," says Jamie Myers.  "I think Tom knew it would be close when it left the club."  The shot ended up 4 feet and 5 inches from the cup and basically slammed the door shut on all contenders.  The field of players were not excited.

Greg Long won the contest in June 2003 with a similar shot.

"Tom is really lucky," said Greg Long.  "The shot came exactly between his great Round 1 and disasterous Round 2.  He was really lucky the contest was completed on Thursday."

Tom started tied for 14th place before falling in Round 2 to 35th place.  He finished the tournament poorly in 40th place.  "I would rather not discuss my tournament," says McCauley.  "Let's talk about my Stuck it at Spackler tee shirt."

The 2005 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin in 287 days at an undisclosed location.
