Being John Malcovich

December 27, 2004

COLUMBUS, OH — The Vice President of Golf Instruction, Tom McCauley today announced the signing of John McAninch of Columbus, Ohio, to a national letter of intent during the signing period in late December. John Malcovich is the 2003 Rookie of the Year and the 6th player from Ohio to sign for this year?s major championship.

Malcovich, a sixteenth player for 2005, has decided to attend this year after escaping for a possible scheduling conflict. "Being John Malcovich is not easy.  At first, I had questions about a date conflict.  I really got lucky when I found out my schedule was booked the weekend before and after Spackler, but now excited about my 3rd major championship and a very busy June.  Hopefully I can retain my household name and eliminate the rock in my swing that nearly caused a disaster in 2004."

McCauley believes Malcovich will continue to be a big boost for the tournament. "We are very excited that John has chosen to attend the Open Championship. He is a proven player with extensive regional and national experience. He has the ability to shoot bogeys and is an excellent student of the game.  John will continue to be a key player in the group including his new role in the Skills Challenge."

John McAninch finished tied for 10th place in the 2004 On Tour Championship with 40 points per round.  John placed 16th place at Tanglewood Park in 2004.

The 2005 Carl Spackler Open begins on June 9.  A record number of players are expected to sign in the next week.  Deadline for registration is next Monday.
