GLEN ALLEN, VA — Scott Zavinski has signed a late national letter-of-intent to attend the 2005 Carl Spackler Open Championship at Mountain Valley Golf Course just outside Pottsville, PA. He is the 9th rookie to sign to play in the 2005 major. Mike Davis made the announcement on Thursday before retiring for the evening.

"I'm extremely excited with Scott's decision," Davis said. "We're fortunate to get someone with his age and passion for the game. He will benefit our program outside the golf bag significantly because his brother Jim did." Zavinski, losing the 2004 On Tour Championship, skipped around the low-80's this past summer before falling drastically to the mid-90's and even putting up three-digit scores over the past few months.

Scott Zavinski is a direct descendant from the Polish clan of Zuvinsk. Changed to Zavinski during the great first war due to fears of prosecution. Golf has been a tradition in the Zuvinsk family for generations and generations.  Cornelious Zuvinsk(Scott's great, great, great uncle) had to finally change his name to it's current format to distance the Zuvinsk name from mulligans. "Take a mulligan" is the family's motto, it's been said that "take a mulligan" has even been heard as a greeting at family reunions and Thanksgiving gatherings. Following the family tradition, Scott and his big brother Jim, have not let old Cornelious down. Cornelious is out there aiding the hooks and slices, just to hear the tradition being carried on.

"Scott understands and has grown accustomed to the level of golf in which the Spackler Open will demand with players like Jay Dilks and Kevin Long, Jr.," said Mike Davis. "I believe he's yet another key to the piece of the puzzle for us in becoming a very large national tournament," added Davis.

Scott is not only the 9th rookie to sign, but the 5th rookie from Virginia.  He also is the 28th player to sign for the 5th annual major championship.
