Mr. Carl Spackler

July 15, 2005

POTTSVILLE, PA — Six weeks ago golf fans got a glimpse of the jacket ceremony at the Carl Spackler Open. No doubt most of you will not remember it as the 2005 Carl Spackler Outfit stole the show again. There are few things as touching as Mike Herron in camoflauge.

"There isn't a prettier setting in golf than watching the worst player in the field wear the Outfit," says fellow loser Jon Munksgard, who scored a career low 11, 14, 12 points in 2003. Jon played the tournament in style shooting 82, 81, 75, 80, 70, 98 or 270-over par over the 3 rounds.  "Mike is a great guy.  He is a great addition to our small club of challenged golfers."

Mike Herron has returned to his winning ways since the tournament scoring 86 points in his last two rounds.

"I took the championship lightly," says Herron. "I really played awful and never considered the consequences of having the scores on my permanent record.  I wonder if they scorecards come off my record with good future swing behaviors."

Mike Herron is added to the list of losers.  Mike Trojanowski of 2001, Tom McCauley os 2002, Jon Munkgard of 2003, and Mike Watkeys of 2004.

Mike did see another side to the tournament.  "It was fun. I played like crap earned the award and will forever be in Spackler history that alone is pretty cool," says Herron.  "This tournament is not about winning, but about acquiring friendships.  Making new friends and visiting with old ones.  Getting away drinking and just having fun with all the guys.  I'll have my chances again at the Golden Jacket.  I can't wait for next year and I wear the green proudly all the time."

The 2006 Carl Spackler Open begins in 329 days.  Players are expected to save $1 per day to financially afford the tournament.  Scouting continues this weekend in New York and possibly Michigan.  The Greystone Golf Club in Rochester, NY was eliminated this week due to availability.  Only Tropical Depression Dennis knows the future of this weekend.
