Michigan Revisited

August 4, 2005

JACKSON, MI — Nearly half of the Captains Club revisits the state of Michigan this weekend as they steam roll into August will purpose of finding the 2006 Carl Spackler Open venue.

Jay Dilks, Mike Trojanowski, Brian Long, Jason Watson, and Greg Long are scheduled for the weekend.  Rick Dosky is questionable and member Kyle Marti has signed up.  There are two spots open for other members.

"I am very excited about the weekend," says Trojanowski. "Two days of great golf and great fun."

The group visits Legacy Golf Club on Saturday morning before heading to Grande Golf Club for their 1PM tee time.  Then Cascades Golf Course on Sunday morning.  The group begins in Sylvania, OH at 10:45AM where they visit a sports bar before a quick tour of the Legacy.

Grande and Cascades are located in Jackson, MI.  Cascades hosted Jack Nicklaus and Arnie Palmer some years ago.  The course is ranked in Golf Digest's Top 50 Best Value in America with Mountain Valley.  Grande Golf Club is ranked 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest.

The group plans to stay at a proposed lodging, play golf, and visit 10-12 entertainment options including Jackson Brewing Company.

"We have a lot of work to do," says Jay Dilks.  "A brewery, strip club, beach party, 36 holes, and 10 other bars is going to be a challenge.  Not just anyone group can pull that off."

Greg Long also realizes the work required this weekend. "We started with 50 liquor licenses in the city of Jackson," says Long. "We have removed hotel bars, small pubs, and restaurants that serve beer.  We will be looking for something similar to Maroon's Sports Bar, but even larger if possible."

Player Meeting and Awards Presentation locations are very high on the list for Saturday.

"I was very pleased with the Legacy last month and could not believe the opportunity with Old Silo last May," says Jason Watson.  "If the Jackson area is exceeds that, all I can say is Wow."

Old Silo is located 30 minutes east of Lexington, KY.  The Legacy is located 10 minutes northwest of Toledo, OH.  The state of New York continues to be visited and West Virginia continues to send quotes.

The 2006 tournament venue is scheduled to be released in mid-October.  Basic budgeting for next year has begun and tourney fee will be announced around Halloween.  Invitations mailed on November 15 with deadline for entry on January 3, 2006.
