Formalizing 6th Spackler

December 1, 2005

COLUMBUS, OH — The Captains Club announced today the signing of their Chairman Greg Long of Columbus, Ohio, to a National Letter of Intent to play the 2006 Carl Spackler Open.

The Pennsylvania native returns to North Carolina in search of his 2nd Golden Jacket with what is expected to be a very strong and competitive field. His resume includes 10 major championships since 2001 and a Spackler record 177 submitted scorecards.

"Greg is a wonderful young man and he will continue to add a great deal of depth to a very strong line-up," said Mike Trojanowski. "Slick has mainly competed on the amateur circuit, but has already proven that he can play with the best players. He returns to us from Ohio, which produces some of the best players every year. Greg works very hard and is very competitive which is an attribute that will take him a long way. We are very excited about 2006."

Long's accomplishments include the 2003 Closest to the Pin Contest and the 2005 Optional Scramble. He is in 25th place within the 2005 Virtual Tournament with 40.6 points per round.

"I am very excited about returning to the Neuse," says Long. "It has been nearly 2 years since my visit, but the course is wonderful."

The 2006 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin in just over 189 days. Players have 29 days to sign for the best amateur tournament in America.
