Looking for a Spark

December 16, 2005

POWELL, OH — The Captains Club ensured a bright future for the Carl Spackler Open today after a Bill Bateson national letter of intent was received. As a rookie, this guy made an impact that was ignored. He took a year off and was ignored when he returned in 2005.

"My game must approve and demand attention," says Bateson. "My game continues to fall apart when it matters the most. I need a spark and alcohol is not doing it."

Mike Zabonik, a close friend of Bill Bateson, has decided that positive focus is essential to a major championship. "Bill gets extremely excited, gets nervous before alcohol can stablize him, and then a domino effect takes place," Marty said. "It is quite amusing."

Bateson held 68th position after Round 1 of the 2005 tournament. "The thing I've been most pleased with last year was the way I rallied out of last position," Bateson said. "When you play golf with players at their worst, it's all about who is mentally tough. It is war out there. There is just something about wearing the Al Czervik Outfit."
