West Virginia Joins Field

December 13, 2005

PARKERSBURG, WV — Scott Miller has announced, from the Miller Brewing Company Boardroom, that it is indeed possible to attend two consecutive Open Championships. He signs as the first ever player from West Virginia and 4th player overall.

Miller has committed to the 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship, slated for June 8 in Clayton, NC.

"There has been two mistakes in my life," says Miller. "The first was my absence in Williamsburg. The second was at Tanglewood Park. There will not be a third strike. I am tired of losing my deposit."

Miller has a sketchy past with the championship, as he had to drop out of the last North Carolina tournament in 2004 due to the state government vacation policy. The other debace was an eleventh-hour Kitchen Pass emergency in 2002. Rumors were that a female had the audacity to trump the championship for, of all things, a wedding, even though Miller had already paid the entry fee.

Adding to his woes, this incident preceded a disappointing finish in the 2005 Carl Spackler Open, despite plenty of "Yeungling Confidence".

On a positive note, Miller did eagle a hole in 2002 at the brutally demanding Links at Firestone Farms golf course. He also drove his ball down to the very bottom tier on Pine #6 during the scramble that led to an eagle.

Jean Dore asked to share a comment. "A little story about Scott Miller. He was a member of my scramble team last year at Mountain Valley. I played from the gold tees, however Scott played from the white tees as he is a hacker. Or at least I thought so. There was a delay in the 8th fairway so Slick and I teed off and rode up to see what was going on. Without thought, I parked the cart in the middle of the fairway about 240 yards from the white tee.

The slow play eventually played their 2nd shots to the par 5. Slick and I both looked back at Miller and Campbell on the tee box. I asked Slick, "Are you going to move the cart?"  Slick replied, "I do not think we can be any safer."

Miller teed up and hit a ball clearly over the trees to our right. I first thought, "that is sooooo gone", but then the ball turned on a sharp slice as it came closer and closer and closer. About 2 seconds from impact, Slick yells, "run". The ball bounced off the steel bar that connected the roof of the cart and flew down the fairway.

Let me just say we were 177 yards from the hole after Miller's drive. We were in the middle of the fairway. After

The point of this story is Miller may not appear tough or skilled, but he knows what he is doing. He is the kinda guy that uses the surroundings to win. He is clearly the reason why the team was able to eagle Pine 6 and Pine 8."

The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship is scheduled for June 8. Players have about 15 days to sign.
