WARREN, PA — After almost two weeks passed since signing day, some Spackler fans wondered if Jon Marti was considering another year of playing a round of golf at Cable Hollow or Jackson Valley in June.  Marti put an end to those fears by signing his letter of intent with 2005 Carl Spackler Open on January 6.

Marti will help grow the "over 40" group of players attending this year's Open Championship.  He signs as the 8th player over 40 years of age.

Captains Club member Jason Watson believes Marti will significantly help the group in future recruiting and senior format rule changes.  "Marti will have the chance to win his first jacket if he works hard," says Watson from his office in Dublin, Ohio.  "He has an uphill battle, but the tournament is anyone's to win."

Marti was a little more humble.  "Some guys are there to win the jacket.  Some are there to prove they are the best golfer.  Not me.  My goal is do both with a minor exception.  I want to win the RAW and NOOG point battle against the 7 guys over 40 years of age.  That sounds like a fair approach as a rookie."

Jon is a Lawyer in Warren, PA and signs as the 60th player. He plays golf sporadically and has some real power even at his old age. Jon is a proud graduate from the College of Wooster, where he played football and ran track.

Jon is expected to shoot in the mid-100's at Mountain Valley in June.  Hopefully, he will be bringing more to the table to ensure a strong finish.
