ST. LOUIS, MO — Matt Boland, the +27.8 handicap from Missouri, charged out of the gate last week at The Golf Club at Pevely Farms. The stunning round included 4 pars and 73 points towards the 2009 Virtual Tournament.

Matt, a.k.a. Doctor Bonehead, scored 24 points for his 4 pars and carded just 2 quadruple bogeys.

"One stroke from beating brother Pat," said Matt. "He sucks. He looked like a natural disaster after 9 holes."

Pat opened with a very high 22-over 58 worth just 7 points.

Matt opened with a bogey, dropped 4 shots at the 2nd hole, but then surged with a par, 2 double bogeys, and 2 triple bogeys in the next five holes. He fell at the 8th hole with another quadruple bogey, but came right back with another par at the 9th hole.

Doctor Bonehead caught fire on the back nine shooting a 12-over 48. He opened the back with a double and triple bogey, but then scored 4 straight bogeys worth 3 points each. He polished off his round with 2 pars and a triple bogey. He finished with a 31-over 103.

"It feels really good to score 73 points," said Matt Boland. "I will take a 46 regular," said Boland referring to his jacket size. "I cannot wait to get out to play again."

The 73-point effort is career high by 21 points. The previous career high was 52 points in April 2007.

"He appears to be on fire," says member Tim Davis. "Anyone can get lucky once."

The 2009 Virtual Tournament has kicked off with Jason Ridgeway in the lead with 68.4 points per round. He leads Mark Wray and rookies Chris Price and Mark Palmer.
