Daily Pairing Sheets

Daily Pairing Sheets are used to manage the entire event. These sheets provide key information during the mornings, afternoons and evenings. The sheets are shaped perfectly for your back pocket and provide a well organized event. Please carry these around like your wallet 24 hours per day.

Sheets will be available at the hotel front desk on Tuesday night. Sheets will also be available in the Grande clubhouse for participants of the afternoon practice round. Golfers not playing in the practice round can pick a copy at the hotel upon check-in on Wednesday afternoon/evening.

Daily Pairing Sheets will also be available at the Mandatory Player Meeting on Thursday. Friday and Saturday pairing sheets will be slipped under hotel room doors on Thursday and Friday night with Leaderboard information. There will be very few extra copies printed and taken to the golf course.

These sheets will contain tournament pairings, leaderboard, contest information, schedule of events, taxi schedule, tournament rules, scoring procedures, player courtesies, nightly entertainment, golf handicap information, etc..

Unofficial tournament pairings are available online. Pairings are never final until you have a pairing sheet in your hand. Pairings for the final round on Saturday are set based on reverse leaderboard order after Round 2. Exactly like the PGA Tour with the exception of Brian Long and Greg Garrett who will score the tournament.

There are no guaranteed pairings for anyone attending with one exception. All rookies will play either Wednesday or Thursday with their referral.

Bag Storage

Bag storage is included in your tournament fee. All golf bags can remain at the Grande clubhouse starting Wednesday or Thursday evening through Saturday play. Each golfer will receive a personalized bagtag for easy bagboy identification.

Please see Matt Davis for a bagtag. If playing in the afternoon wave of the practice round, please see Brian Flanagan or Mike Trojanowski prior to teeing off.

The Friday afternoon scramble will require your golf bag to leave the premise.

READ PERSONAL COOLER AND SNACK NOTES BEFORE DECIDING ON BAG STORAGE.

Tournament Rules

The tourney will be played from the Blue Tees.

LOST BALL OR POSSIBILITY OF LOST BALL: The first option is to hit a provisional from the original spot. Then play the provisional ball if your first ball cannot be found. The second option is to drop in the area of where it was last seen with a two-stroke penalty. If your 1st shot is lost, taking a drop where the ball was last seen means you are hitting your 4th shot.

OUT OF BOUNDS: Balls cannot be played or fetched when they cross the white-staked hazards. They are out of bounds. Your options are identical to the lost ball rule stated above.

RED STAKES: Balls CAN BE played from inside the red-staked hazards. By penalty of one stroke, you drop within two club lengths from where the ball crossed the stakes. Another option is to hit from the original spot with 1 stroke penalty. If your first shot went into the hazard, take a drop outside the red stakes and hit your 3rd shot.

YELLOW STAKES: Balls CAN BE played from inside the yellow-staked hazards. By penalty of one stroke, you may drop anywhere in the line of the shot including the original spot. If your first shot went into the hazard, take a drop in the line of your shot and hit your 3rd shot.

UNPLAYABLE LIES: A player may take an unplayable lie anywhere on the course including the middle of the fairway. By penalty of 1 stroke, a golfer must drop two club lengths no closer to the hole from the unplayable lie. Unplayable lies normally prohibit the free swing of the golf club.

FREE DROPS: A player may obtain free relief or drop from a fairway divot or a cart path. All man-made objects such as stakes, fences and signs receive a free drop with no penalty. Your partner should assist. Drops are no closer to the hole.

LONG PUTT: The longest putt made on each hole receives long putt points. The Captains Club strongly encourages putting out of turn when pace of play is jeopardized. Mark your distance proactively and putt when partners are not standing on the green or ready to play. Fringe putts and short chips do not count. If the longest putt is less than a putter length, the hole is voided and does not push. A putter should fit between the ball and the hole to be valid. Long putts cannot be longer than its previous putt.

GIMME: The Captains Club proudly supports two forms of gimme. (1) Golfers may take a gimme (one stroke) if scoring zero points on the hole. (2) If already taking a zero points on a hole, a golfer may drop with no penalty at the 100 yard red disc in the middle of the fairway. The gimme rule speeds up pace of play while still allowing for long putt points. All other forms of gimme are prohibited.

DO NOT TOUCH YOUR BALL UNLESS IT IS MARKED AND LYING MOTIONLESS ON THE GREEN. FLUFFING IS PROHIBITED.

Dress Code

The Grande Golf Club has a dress code policy. Golf shirts along with bermuda shorts are required. T-shirts, jogging apparel or denim of any kind is prohibited. Only soft spike golf shoes are allowed on the golf course and driving range.

Golf Carts

Your tournament fee includes electric golf cart each day of play. The carts are brand new with larger more productive compartments and mounted cooler.

Rules of Engagement

The following rules are non-negotiable.  Please do not take them personally regardless of relationship. Please do not register if you do not fully agree.

1.  Tournament will not discount for partial attendance.  Please do not ask today or in May.

2.  Roommates and foursome pairings are not guaranteed. All referrals attending with a single Spackler Rookie will be roomed together. All Spackler Rookies will be paired for golf with their referral on Wednesday or Thursday.

3.  Golf refunds due to weather are not guaranteed.  We will do our best.

4.  Non-refundable deposits are still in order. Cancellations are not as simple as replacing someone. If you cancel, do not expect your deposit back regardless of relationship or seniority. We cannot and will not treat you any different than the previous 18 cancellations. The money will be given to charity and/or fund outstanding bills.

5.  All cancellations in May or June will increase the percentage of player tournament fee loss by 3 percent per day starting May 1. For example, if you cancel on May 15, you lose the entire non-refundable deposit ($120) and 45% of the remaining tournament fee. We use postmarked date.  The money is given to charity or fund outstanding bills.

6.  Rick Dosky and the Captains Club will be drunk at the tournament. Optional activities or services (scramble, go karts, etc.) are non-refundable in May or June 2007.  Optional activities with last-minute availability might be accepted with cash wrapped in a note.

Smoking Rooms

The Super 8 Motel has 22 non-smoking rooms with two queen beds and 10 smoking rooms with two queen beds. They also have several non-smoking rooms with one queen bed. The general manager will be airing out the smoking rooms, which may or may not smell like a smoking room.

Distribution of non-smoking rooms will be completed based on volunteers and then combined signing dates of roommates.

Tournament Handicapping

The tournament handicaps will be using Poststats Points for a 7th year in a row. These points are completely independent of Virtual Tournament handicaps. They will be updated and printed in early June.

The 4-man Scramble will be overhauled this year including the use of handicapping. All golfers within a team will be analyzed together and be given a team handicap. The handicap system is devised for 3-man team to compete against a 5-man team on a level playing field.

Weather, Bugs & Weather Delays

The area statistically averages a 77 degree-high and 65 degree-low temperature on June 7 each year. Jackson averages 3.26 inches of rain in the month of June.

The 54-hole tournament has never experienced completely dry conditions. The tournament will be played in rain, but not in a heavy downpour. The tournament could be adjusted to 36 holes on Friday or Saturday due to bad weather. Please use your daily pairing sheets and common sense. The Closest to the Pin, Skills Challenge, and 4-man Scramble in this order will be activities removed from the itinerary if needed. The tournament can also be adjusted for 27 holes on Thursday if heavy rain is expected on Friday. The Daily Pairing Sheets will be updated every night.

The choice spot to ride out very bad weather is the very large Clark Lake Golf Course clubhouse. The extremely large cluhouse with bar and restaurant can be found 12 minutes south using the maps distributed at the hotel.

Very wet conditions prior to the tournament can attract an obscene amount of mosquitos in southern Michigan. It is recommended that players obtain plenty of insect repellent for MULTIPLE golfers over the 4 day period if Michigan receives lots of rain prior to arrival. Absorbine Jr. works well.

If the live music gets cancelled on Wednesday, the group will move to Jerry's Pub on Wednesday night.

The cooler morning temperatures could require a pullover jacket. Umbrellas, drizzle sticks, rain suits and towels should be packed.

Super 8 Motel

The Super 8 Motel is the choice lodging to host the 2007 Carl Spackler Open.

The structure of the practice round includes an accurate 18-hole scorecard to be filled out based on your play. The Captains Club also encourages practice shots throughout the round when appropriate. Pace of play is the primary concern and partners who might be playing their original ball.

The Grande Golf Club will be given several daily pairings sheets for all golf days. These sheets will be the only golfer information supplied to the Grande. The Grande will be waiting for you to show up. You are not required to sign-in with the clubhouse, but do as instructed or grab a golf cart. There will be multiple starters waiting for you near the practice range or Hole 1. You will start on the North nine.

The Super 8 Motel Banquet Room has been rented from Wednesday through Sunday morning. All golfers may use the kitchen or the room to play cards or for social activities.

Jackson Harness Raceway has live harness racing and simulcasting on Saturday. The race track is located in downtown Jackson and approximately 5-7 minutes from the Grande Golf Club.

Snacks

The tournament fee will provide snacks for each golfer throughout the weekend. The following is the plan for our very large snack purchase.

Exactly 2,410 individual vending machine snacks including potato chips, crackers, twizzlers, combos, hotballs, smarties, gum, nachos, fritos, peanuts, cookies, tootsie rolls, and skittles will be placed in the kitchen within the Super 8 Motel Banquet Room.

IF TAKING SNACKS TO THE GOLF COURSE, THEY MUST BE PLACED IN YOUR GOLF BAG OR YOUR PARTNERS GOLF BAG PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL AT THE GRANDE. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ROOM IN YOUR GOLF BAG, PLEASE LEAVE THEM BEHIND OR EAT THEM WHILE AT THE SUPER 8. IF YOU PLAN TO USE THE GOLF COURSE BAG STORAGE, YOU SHOULD PLAN TO STOCK UP ON WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY.

The order includes 10 package snacks per golfer and 27 bulk snacks per golfer. Please do not exceed these limits until early Saturday morning. A sign will be displayed in the kitchen designating snacks. With cooperation, this trial purchase is expected to add an estimated $525 value to the Carl Spackler Open.

PLEASE PICK UP ALL WRAPPERS AND INSERT THEM INTO TRASH CANS WHEN YOU SEE THEM. THIS INCLUDES WRAPPERS THAT DO NOT BELONG TO YOU.

Food

The tournament fee will cover some food for each golfer throughout the weekend. The following is the plan for our food purchase.

BREAKFAST
Each and every morning, the Super 8 Motel will provide a complimentary continental breakfast. This includes 6:00AM on Friday morning.

LUNCH
The Carl Spackler Open will not be providing any lunch. Golfers should be playing golf at the Grande Golf Club at noon each day.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY NIGHT
The Carl Spackler Open will not be providing dinner on Wednesday and Thursday night. The Beach Bar and Jerry's Pub have very extensive menus. Italian food will be served on Friday and Saturday.

FRIDAY SANDWICH
There are 36 holes to be played by most of the group on Friday. To ensure the itinerary is not compromised, exactly 65 sandwiches will be purchased on Friday and distributed after Round 2. The purpose of the sandwich is to ensure everyone is feed and ready for their second round. The sandwich order will be based on options selected in March.

The sandwiches will not be purchased from the Grande Golf Club. Sandwiches will be available in the parking lot as the group leaves the facility.

FRIDAY PIZZA
After the 4-man Scramble and showers, 33 large pizzas will be delivered to the Activity Room within the Super 8 Motel. Each pizza will have two names on it to be split across the two golfers. This dinner will run along casino and cornhole contests.

SATURDAY NIGHT
A fully catered Awards Dinner is planned for Saturday night. The dinner will include lasagna, chicken, salad, and bread. It will also be held in the Activity Room within the Super 8 Motel.

CLARK LAKE CLUBHOUSE
Clark Lake Golf Course has a very large restaurant for interested golfers. This clubhouse will also be used for long periods of heavy rain. A map to the clubhouse will be available at the Super 8 Motel.

Provided Beverages

The tournament fee will cover some beverages for each participant throughout the weekend. The following is the plan for our beverage purchase.

Zero beer will be provided at the Grande Golf Club. A six-pack of beer is $13.00. There are mounted coolers on each golf cart.

The tournament fee is expected to provide 2 kegs on the course for the 4-man Scramble. These kegs are available for guys not participating in the scramble.

The tournament fee will provide beer and non-alcoholic beverages for the Friday Night Card Night and Awards Dinner/Presentation.

WE ARE PURCHASING BEER FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE BEER OUT OF THE SUPER 8 MOTEL ACTIVITY ROOM AT ANY OTHER TIME.

Personal Coolers

The Grande Golf Club did not have a "NO PERSONAL COOLER" sign in July 2006, however it is highly unlikely they encourage them. The Grande Golf Club has purchased brand new electric golf carts with mounted coolers.

THE CAPTAINS CLUB DOES NOT WANT TO SEE PERSONAL COOLERS IN-OR-AROUND THE CLUBHOUSE, RANGE, PRACTICE GREEN, STARTING HOLES, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY FINISHING HOLES.

Golfers could in theory hide warm beer in their golf bags before leaving the hotel, buy 2 beers from the clubhouse with lots of ice, and have lots of beer in their golf cart cooler by Hole 2. These beers in theory would be purchased at the party store at the corner of Jefferson Road and Route 127.

Scoring & Long Putts

Each golf cart should fill out a scorecard for entire foursome. Both scorecards will be given to Brian Long or Greg Garrett for scorecard integrity. This includes the practice round. Please verify all stroke totals balance.

It is the responsibility of existing members to explain long putts to our many rookies on Wednesday.

Upon Arrival

All participants should be looking to obtain four pieces of communication as soon as they arrive to Jackson or Brooklyn.

(1) Wednesday Daily Pairing Sheet (Practice Round). This includes golfers not participating in the practice round. The hotel front desk will have these sheets on Tuesday night and Wednesday night. There will be sheets available at the Grande Golf Club practice range.

(2) Local Map. These will be available at the hotel front desk or you can print one today.
http://www.carlspackleropen.com/spackler/map.doc

(3) Rooming List. These will be available at the hotel front desk. Roommates with numbers are also available online.

(4) Bagtag. These will be available at the Grande Golf Club practice range. See Greg Long, Brian Flanagan, or Mike Trojanowski so your golf bag has identification.

Practice Balls

Practice balls are included in the tournament fee. There should be a very large bucket available on the practice range on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Balls will be available 60 minutes before your tee time.

Time & Itinerary

The trip itinerary is available online by clicking CALENDAR. The evenings are entirely based on pace of play at the Grande. The pace of play target is 4 1/2 to 5 hours. The itinerary is based on 5 1/2 hours for 18 holes. The itinerary is pushed back or forward depending on pace of play. Please use common sense when reviewing the evening itineraries on the daily pairing sheets.

By design and recommendation, there are 2 hours and 15 minutes of tee times on Thursday and Saturday. Thursday morning from 7:45AM to 10:03AM are jam packed with events requiring attendance. Please follow the daily pairing sheets.

Onsite Help & Questions

Rookies will see lots of Carl Spackler Open logo hats of different colors. If you have a problem, please see someone with a red colored hat. These are the guys running the golf trip. If you have a specific question, please look for a red or blue hat. Blue colored hats are your participants with 3+ years of Spackler experience.
