Bad Start costs Bateson

June 29, 2003

ASHTABULA, OH — After a horrible start in Round 1, Bill Bateson really stepped back and took a look at his game.  It is undetermined what he did because things got even worse on Friday when Bill shot a career high 60 strokes on the back nine.  That must have been a wake up call for Bateson as he proceeded to dominate the field and move up the leaderboard like Microsoft in 1985.

"I bought a lot of beer at the turn on Friday, but I think it was the end of the rain that did it for me", said Bateson.  "I really felt good after hitting a few birdies.  I knew that I was on the move up the board."

Bill Bateson finished in the Top 5 with 88 points.  He placed behind Tom Fowble, Matt Davis, Chad Long and Brian Flanagan.  He also finished with 323 strokes or 107-over par for the 54-hole tournament.
