MYRTLE BEACH, SC — The 2018 Carl Spackler Open will open tournament play on the Moorland course at Legends Resort on June 7. The 54-hole golf tournament includes 88 players from 15 different states. The Moorland course consists of multi leveled fairways with deep faced bunkers as well as the signature bulkheads making the course a true test.

"There are no easy lies in the mounding and grassy swales that surround most of the challenging, raised green complexes," says Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. "Golfers will be suckerd into going for the flag - as missing these greens on the approach can result in quadruple bogeys."

There are 64 sand bunkers including all the expansive waste areas on the Moorland course with significant water hazards coming into play on 7 holes.

The 2nd hole isn't long, but requires a combination of skill and decision-making to conquer. "I have spent a fair amount of thought about the tee shot at the 2nd hole," says Long. "I think its fair to suggest its the hardest tee shot in our 18-year event history. The only thing to compare is the 11th hole at the Grande in Jackson, MI. Your practice round is critical."

Finding the fairway off the tee is a prerequisite, because sand and water await errant shots. The hole also features a second fairway on the left side starting 100 yards from the green. The original fairway ends at a waste bunker less than 100 yards from the green. Smart players play their second shot to the upper plateau, leaving themselves well positioned to hit one of the course?s smallest greens. It's a very difficult green to hit and hold in two, so you are better off not trying.

The 2018 Carl Spackler Open tees off in 31 days with its annual practice round. The tournament will return to Myrtle Beach where it all started in March 2001 with just 9 golfers.
