Totteridge Joins List

October 15, 2021

GREENSBURG, PA — The Captains Club continues its search for the host course for the 2022 Carl Spackler Open. The scenic Totteridge Golf Club was contacted, visited, and then added as a possibility for 2022.

“Totteridge is another golf course that would fit into the Carl Spackler Open portfolio,” said Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. “It has everything we want in a proposal except large clubhouse and interest in our event. The general manager asked me to sell our event to them, which seemed backwards. A general overview and set of requirements was provided to owners.”

With the grandeur of our countryside, Totteridge does offer the best panoramic views in Western Pennsylvania. Rees Jones and Tom Tanto built Totteridge Golf Course.

Jones succeeded in fulfilling his design commitment totally. As his first endeavor in western PA, the 18-hole, links-style layout takes full advantage of the rolling hills and breathtaking vistas. Elevated tee boxes, natural fairway mounding, selective bunkering, and fast greens provide an enjoyable challenge. Totteridge may be best remembered for great golf and its open, links style golf in gently rolling hills and vistas.

“The layout and conditions at Totterridge are vastly underrated,” says Long. “It is fantastic hidden gem and a golf course that should be shared using our event.”

The 2022 Carl Spackler Open does not have a date nor a location. The date is based on golf course selection. The practice round will likely be held on May 11, June 8, June 22, or July 13. The Captains Club continues to look for proposals, but will hold its first press conference in October to announce the date. Both Metamora Fields and Weaver Ridge in Illinois have availability, solid logistics, and pricing.

The Captains Club continues to look for proposals, but has officially eliminated Boulder Creek (in Ohio), Iron Valley (in Pennsylvania), Riverfront (in Virginia), Greystone (in New York), Greystone (in Tennessee), Bretwood (in New Hampshire), Coyote Crossing (in Indiana), Sultans Run (in Indiana), Glade Springs (in West Virginia), and Belmont Lake (in North Carolina).
