1st hole League match against ordained minister I had never met. My drive stays six inches above ground and impaled a bird at end of tee box. Shook opponent so bad, he quit after three holes

Carolina Strengthens

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Carl Spackler Open added a talented performer with the signing of rookie Keith Archer of North Carolina to letter of intent last December. Keith, a.k.a. Sparky, will join the men's golf program that has been on the brink of greatness and record-size once again. Archer is 1 of the 23 rookies signed to play in the annual event.

"We are thrilled that Sparky has decided to fly to Pennsylvania this June," says buddy Chris Milam. "He really strengthens our chances to bring back-to-back golden jackets back to beloved state of North Carolina."

Keith is a quiet man, but when he does speak, its usually something really sarcastic and funny. Sparky loves his Volunteers. The big University of Tennessee fan has been caught more than once watching women's basketball.

"He is definitely a good fit for Spackler," says Milam. "I am not sure what he put in as his handicap, but he is usually in the 80s. He qualifies for the senior tees, however you probably won't see him moving up."

There were several reports out of Charlotte a few years back where Archer grew national attention. He allegedly attended a LPGA event where he decided to stalk the 'talent'. He started with Paula Creamer for a few holes, and then after grabbing reinforcement beers, he was almost got run over by Morgan Pressel’s golf cart as she was making her way to the 10th tee box. Literally run over, with swerving, tires squealing, and panicked voices. He provided the standard intoxicated excuses and did not even get an autographed glove to massage his back pocket.

Archer is a +12.1 stroke handicap with measurement over 15 rounds. He could very well receive 2 points for bogey and 4 points for par at Mountain Valley. Sparky is one participant with a handicap that reflects alcohol intoxication.

The 2011 Carl Spackler Open Championship will be held at Mountain Valley Golf Course in Barnesville, PA. Many participant options will be closed prior to March 31 as everyone has selected early. There are 92 participants expected for the 11th annual birthday party.
