Virginia Beach Enters Field

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Trent Cooper and Jay Glover signed over the weekend to play in the 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship. The two members return from their rookie year at Mountain Valley.
"We are glad to have them back," says Chairman Greg Long. "I am delighted to see after a few years of recruitment, they indeed are committed to our major championship."
Both players return after playing their 8 worst rounds of a combined 77 rounds of 2005 at Mountain Valley. "I really expected these guys to compete, but found they fell to the massive pressure of a major championship. I hope they can turn it around in June."
Trent Cooper brings a 10.3 Poststats Stroke Handicap while Jay Glover opens 2006 with a 12.8 Stroke Handicap.
"I can honestly say that I completely under-estimated the entertainment value and lost focus," says Trent Cooper. "There were no bright spots for me except Closest to the Pin."
Jay Glover did manage to put together one good round of golf at the 2005 major championship. "Mountain Valley did not setup for my game," said Glover. "The Neuse provides a home course advantage for residences in Virginia. By eliminating fairways lined by 60 foot high pine trees, I fully expect to contend for the Golden Jacket."
The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 157 days. Jay Glover and Trent Cooper are the first two players to sign and represent the state of Virginia.
