VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The Carl Spackler Open added a talented performer with the signing of Jean Dore to letter of intent last week. He will join a men's golf program that has been on the brink of greatness and quadrupled in size since 2002. Jean, a.k.a. Homer, is the 5th member to sign to play in the Open Championship.
"We are thrilled that Homer has decided to come to Pottsville," said Kevin Long, Jr. "Hopefully, he can hit a grandslam instead of his worst 3 rounds of the year."
Dore, the 6th registry from Virginia and the 4th from Virginia Beach will add to an already talented field for the 6th annual Carl Spackler Open. Jean lead the 2005 Virtual Tournament for months before exposing himself to an unfamiliar golf course. He finished in 4th position.
"Dore has a lot of regional tournament experience and has a very solid foundation of fundamentals," Kevin Long, Jr. said. "It's clear from last year what a national championship atmosphere will do to his game. I expect him to make the appropriate adjustments and contend this year."
Dore noted in his letter of intent, "I am not a long hitter and not capable of shooting very low numbers, however I have a terrific short game and am just now hitting my stride as a competitor on the regional stage."
