Czverik-Like Performance
April 19, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC — Glenn Hoffert, the reigning Al Czverik, shot a dismal 20 points over the weekend in his 2006 debut. The 30-over par 102 was not a good sign moving into a very important season. On Tuesday, the problems continued with another 30-over par 102.
Hoffert is also the worst player in Spackler history. He presently owns the Crapper Award for his consistent crashes at the Carl Spackler Open Championships.
Glenn has seen lots of success in the Virtual Tournament after winning the opening year and placing 2nd in 2004.
"It was not a good," says Hoffert. "My wife has ironed the Al Czverik pants and pressed the shirt in preparation for another final round in red."
Hoffert opened the season with 1 point for bogey, 3 for par and a booming 9 points for birdie. "My goal this year is to lower my handicap by 2 strokes," says Hoffert. "That puts me lower than Robby Fustich. I hopped over Chad last year. Going to hop over Casale in 2007."
In other news, the 2006 Virtual Tournament has a new leader once again. Chuck Long fell out of the top spot last week. Joe Butkus took over the top spot with 40.5 points per round before falling on Tuesday night. He held first position by 1.8 points per round. Rookie Chace Farrell resumes the top spot with 38.7 points per round.
Scott Zavinski is 0.3 points per round from being on top again. "The point system has a log jam between 38 points," says Zavinski. "Every putt counts right now."
