Ripe Withdrawal Season
April 28, 2006
RALEIGH, NC — The season is very ripe for withdrawals. With Wednesday as the postmarked deadline, the 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship announces it will scale back to 62 golfers.
Rikky Goswami will join Brad Simon and opt out of his first major championship. Rikky lives 1.4 miles from the choice hotel.
"This is our second cancellation," says Jeremy Myers. "Hopefully this is our last as the financial deadline has past, but Monday is the big day."
The tournament office has no leads to replace Rikky or Brad. The budget will be adjusted in about a week if no leads are found.
Last year, Mike Watkeys was thrown out of the tournament for missing payment deadlines. Jon Marti and Dean Spear also withdrew in April. Tom McCauley withdrew last March before realizing he was stupid. He resigned one month later after his original spot was taken.
"We expect them and try to curb them," says Rick Dosky. "I do not want to imagine the year of refundable deposits. It probably would no longer be fun."
The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 40 days. Options are complete. Apparel has been ordered. Have you looked for a replacement today?
