Punia Exits
May 3, 2006
TROY, NY — The 2005 Rookie of the Year exited the tournament this week as quietly as possible. He followed his withdrawal with a quick note.
"Sorry gents. I have to withdraw," said Punia in his written statement. Too many things going on at this end. I'm going to miss not catching up with you cats!"
Punia becomes the fourth casuality of the 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship sending the participation backwards to 60 players. The surprise comes after Punia-stock just increased this year with Kevin Long, Sr. and David Neill's signing with +40 handicaps. There are more important things in this world than the Carl Spackler Open and with that we lose a near legend.
The tournament shakeup drops the field to 60," says tournament coordinator and Captains Club member Jeremy Myers. "I do not think we are done yet. We still have $1,500+ unaccounted for as far as remaining balances. I think we may have a few more this week."
Rick Dosky continues to post checks as they arrive to the business office. Wednesday remains the big day as late-second checks have 7 days to arrive. Final adjustments to the field will begin on Wednesday.
There are 35 days left before Round 1.
