Field Drops Again to 59
May 5, 2006
BRADFORD, PA — The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship has received cancellations for two weeks now. The business office finally received communication from Chace Farrell on Thursday evening regarding his status for his first major championship.
"I've saved more than enough money to cover the trip, however, I just started a new job. Getting time off isn't that easy being the new guy. If you can fill my spot, fill the spot. If I can get the time off, my 4th
check will be in the mail."
Farrell continued, "I've put in for the time off, with no response yet. I will not know my off days for that week until the preceding week. So it's a crap shoot. I really am trying to make this work, but it really isn't that easy. I know it will be one hell of a time. I will know for sure by the 29th."
The tournament office has withdrawn him from the major championship with a 50/50 possibility of Chace jumping back into the field in late-May. A fifth spot is now available for the 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship.
"Timber!" yelled Vice President of Sober Transportation, Don Creighton. "The field of players is falling fast." Farrell's withdrawal comes one year after Watkeys was replaced due to lack of funds. "It sure is disappointing that guys have other things going on. We will continue to look for replacements with 33 days left. Hopefully we can replace the fallen field."
The tournament field drops from 64 golfers to 59 golfers. Replacements can mail $349 to Rick Dosky immediately.
"Simply amazing," said Matt Davis after hearing the news. "That is a record withdrawal rate of 8.4 percent and we are not officially done yet. Punia and Watkeys should know better. I hope Chace can make it."
The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins with an optional practice round on June 7. The business office will be working on player pairings and finalizing room assignments when the chaos completes.
