Boland's Lottery Planned
May 30, 2006
CLAYTON, NC — The surprised return of the Red Tee Lottery is scheduled to return in 2 weeks. The Captains Club in honor of its new owner has changed the name to Boland's Lottery.
"I was not very happy with the absence of the Red Tee Lottery and Distribution," said Pat Boland. "Rather than give someone crap about it, I decided that it will happen because I will make it happen."
The Red Tee Lottery will begin during the player meeting with selections from a hat. There will be 16 holes used during the weekend and each hole will be used by 4 different golfers per day.
The Red Tee Lottery was introduced in 2003 at Thunder Hill. It gives all players one hole per round where they may play from the Red Tees.
"Some of the guys may forget their designated hole," Boland added. "Others may take a snowman anyway. A little pressure to capitalize on the advantage always adds a mental breakdown to someone's vacation."
Starting in Round 2, Red Tee hole designation will be distributed based on reverse leaderboard order. The biggest disappointment from Round 1 will receive the most coveted Red Tee. Probably 110 yards.
"Pat Boland was a friend," said tournament organizer Jeremy Myers. "He is now my best friend. I love the lottery."
The 2006 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in exactly 8 days.
