Munksgard Pours in 50

WARREN, PA — As the Virtual Tournament gets set for its second largest golf week of the year, Chet Munksgard poured in 50 points to open his 2006 season. The 2nd place finisher at the 2005 Carl Spackler Open Championship played the private Conewango Country Club in Warren, PA.

The stellar 50 points were setup by two 9-point birdies on the front nine before settling down on the back nine.

"The putter among other things seemed to be working out of the gate," said Munksgard. "Hopefully I can keep things going in a positive direction. Two more rounds like this and first place is mine."

Munksgard's last non-major round was 120 strokes at Jackson Valley Country Club. A mere 21 strokes less with only a June major championship in-between.

In other news, the largest golf week of the year starts today nationwide. The last two seasons have spiked with scorecard entries including 82 scorecards over a 5-day period last year.

"It is nice to see the weather is looking good in the northeast," said Captains Club member Don Creighton. "I fully expect some really good scores to be posted this holiday weekend. By the way, I wish my face would look like Chet's before my round. He looks very determined."

Scott Zavinski presently holds first position with 47.5 points per round. Greg Garrett and Jean Dore round out the leaderboard in 46th and 47th place respectively.
