Shawn Long Wins Open

June 11, 2006

CLAYTON, NC — Shawn Long won the 6th Carl Spackler Open Championship on the 54th green when he drained another 10 foot putt for 5 points. He finished pumping in 67 points in the final round. The win places Ohio back into the spotlight as Shawn becomes the 4th winner from Columbus.

"The best round of life would have been 10 strokes higher," said winner of the Golden Jacket. "It is a priviledge to just be a part of such an outstanding legacy."

Long opened with 31 points in Round 1. He returned on Friday and pumped in 51 points during "Move Day". Nobody could have expected the 67 points in the final round.

"He was absolutely under fire," said Captains Club member Brian Long. "That was his first career birdie for starters."

Bill Bateson noted, "He was playing lights out. I have never seen a complete hacker shoot 103."

Long's Golden Jacket is the 6th for the tournament. He is added to the lengthly jacket history after Greg Long (2001), Mike Trojanowski (2002), Tom Fowble (2003), Steve Hoden (2004) and Rick Dosky (2005).

Brian Zeybel, Ashley Davis, Glenn Hoffert and Bryan Grasser rounded out the Top 5.
