Looking Good; Playing Good
June 21, 2006
OIL CITY, PA — Jay Dilks is looking very good. So good some players are questioning their sexuality. Now guys must decide whether to play golf like Dilks.
After playing 70% less this year, Dilks has only fallen a few strokes this season. His main struggle is the lack of birdie. He has struggled to obtain his first birdie of the season and actually reported his last Virtual Tournament birdie back in September 2005.
"I had two birdies a few weeks ago in Carl Spackler Open, but things are different this year," said a unconcerned Dilks. "I am not playing golf as frequently this year. When I can get out, it takes 10-13 holes just to get warmed up."
Dilks knows what he is talking about. Dilks continued to be "under fire" during the final round of major championship play when he nearly broke 80. He nearly broke 80 last year during the final round at Mountain Valley.
"This guy needs to play 3 or 4 practice rounds on a Scott Zavinski schedule," said buddy Mike Trojanowski. "Those final rounds are the rounds he hopefully will leave behind as his legacy."
Jay Dilks holds 37th position with Nick Casale in the season-long Virtual Tournament. With no birdies this season, Dilks has really no where to go but up.
