McElroy Opens with 68
July 3, 2006
COLUMBUS, OH — Pat McElroy returned to the golf course on Sunday afternoon. He returned to dreadful scores at The Golf Club at Stonelick Hills. He was joined by Jason Ridgeway, Greg Long and Chris Philipsen of Columbus, OH.
McElroy opened with near bogey golf before running up the score and shooting 32-over par 68 on the front nine. He opened with 4 points shooting bogey, double-bogey, double-bogey and bogey before the wheels came off.
"Really poor shot-making," said McElroy after the front nine. "The lack of focus over the ball was missing."
McElroy finished the front nine with quintuple, quintuple, sextuple, quadruple and sextuple-bogeys. "He was no where near double-par for a stretch of holes," said partner Greg Long. "He even lost a ball after hitting it 3 feet." Heavy heather was blamed for the lost ball.
Pat settled down after the island green 9th hole and a Snickers candy bar. He fired 4 bogeys and 4 double bogeys on the back nine to drop 17 strokes on the back nine.
The Golf Club at Stonelick Hills is located just off the eastern beltway of Cincinnati, OH. Jason Ridgeway, Chris Philipsen and Greg Long joined McElroy after massive thunderstorms and flooding was scheduled to destroy a wonderful day in eastern Cleveland. The warm weather and blue sky in Batavia, OH proved to be the right decision.
"Stonelick has two great finishing holes," said Chris Philipsen. "One of the best clubhouses ever including an incredible patio and stadium flip seating to watch golfers return to the lake-front clubhouse."
The Golf Club at Stonelick Hills is the 7th Best New Affordable Golf Course in America for 2005. The Cincinnati round comes one week after Greg Long and Chris Philipsen played Eagle Ridge at Yatesville Lake in Kentucky. Yatesville made the same list at #3. "Greyhawk Golf Club southwest of Cleveland is also on the list and my schedule for the summer," said Greg Long."
Jason Ridgeway played a poor 7-over par round. Greg Long continued to hack including a big-10 strokes on the final hole. The finishing hole pushing him into the 90's for the second-straight day. Philipsen also shot 21-over par, however carded a birdie.
In other news, Scott Zavinski finally posted a Zavinski-poor round scoring a dismal 41 points. The 4th of July holiday is a large weekend of golf expecting lots of posted scorecards. It also marks the half-way point of the 2006 Virtual Tournament.
