A New Leader
September 11, 2006
HOUSTON, TX — Jason Watson, member of the winning 2003 scramble team, has taken over the Virtual Tournament and now leads the season-long event with Scott Zavinski sliding into second position.
The top spot arrived after scoring 58 points at Tour 18 on Thursday just outside Houston, TX. "My game is consistent as heck and rock solid through the putting," said Watson. "Just in time for my 12th major, which is nice."
Watson is obviously referring to his 6th Golfapalooza in as many years. Golfapalooza X begins in 2 weeks at Alpine Lake Resort in Terra Alta, WV.
The 24-over par 86 included 1 birdie, 3 pars, and 13 bogeys. "This is pretty good for 27.9 handicap in January," said Jay Dilks from his home in Oil City, PA. "He has nearly cut his stroke handicap in half. That is unthinkable for many guys, but he truely has found something in his swing motion."
The Virtual Tournament continues into September with just over 3 months remaining. Scott Zavinski slips into second position with Matt Davis, Chad Long and Joe Butkus rounding out the Top 5.
